How badly does a root canal hurt?
We are often asked ‘how much will a root canal hurt on a scale of 1-10’? This is very difficult to answer because everyone’s experience will be different, and how everyone feels pain will be different. However, we would estimate that most root canal pain would be scored at around 0-2 out of 10 following great anaesthesia.
A local anaesthetic will be administered before treatment begins, meaning that most patients feel no pain at all throughout the procedure. There may be a sensation of pressure or movement, but with very little to no discomfort for a painless root canal. How long may I feel any pain or tenderness after root canal treatment?
It is completely normal to experience minor bruising, swelling, or discomfort during root canal recovery.
