Pre-Treatment Care
Pre-Treatment
Please alert the specialist to any particular concerns or needs you may have. It may be helpful to have a consultation prior to any treatment if you are feeling anxious.
Treatment can always be arranged with sedation if required. For patients who are mildly anxious, Temazepam, administered orally 30 minutes before treatment, can be sufficient to become more comfortable. For those requiring deeper sedation (but not general anaesthesia) we can arrange for a specialist anaesthetist to attend and give intravenous sedation.
Pre-Treatment Analgesia
We administer non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication prior to dental treatment, as current studies indicate that such a dose can significantly reduce post-operative discomfort.
We will only give antibiotics pre-treatment for specific medical problems where there is a risk of a spreading infection, or in the presence of bacteraemia.
